Foster Care, Adoption, and Respite Training
Foster Care Training
Foster parents are required to participate in the following training before welcoming a foster child into their home:
- Attend an 1.5 hour orientation meeting;
- Fulfill 27 hours of pre-service training, typically held in a group setting, meeting for three hours one evening a week over a 9 week period. Individual training is available for potential foster parents unable to attend evening classes;
- Complete Catholic Church’s Protecting God’s Children VIRTUS curriculum, a three hour class taught by DCCH staff.
Adoption Training
Adoption training is similar to foster parent training and includes:
- Attending an 1.5 hour orientation meeting;
- Fulfilling 27 hours of pre-service training, typically held in a group setting, meeting for three hours one evening a week over a 9 week period. Individual training is available for potential adoptive parents unable to attend evening classes;
- Completing Catholic Church’s Protecting God’s Children VIRTUS curriculum, a three hour class taught by DCCH staff.
Respite Care Training
DCCH Center for Children and Families asks potential respite care providers to participate in the following training:
- Attend an orientation meeting;
- Fulfill nine hours of training;
- Complete Catholic Church’s Protecting God’s Children VIRTUS curriculum, a three hour class taught by DCCH staff;
