It started with an old, forgotten bulldog mascot costume—just another item in the DCCH Flea Market. But what we didn’t know was that it would lead us to something much greater.
From an idea to a story, and then a wish—a simple wish for a real Buddy. And then, as if fate had been listening all along, Buddy found us. At just 4 pounds, she arrived timid and unsure, much like the children we serve. But with love, patience, and a safe place to grow, she blossomed—just like they do. Today, Buddy is more than just our mascot. She is on her way to becoming a certified therapy dog, learning how to bring comfort, calm, and unconditional love to those who need it most.
Her snorts and snores bring laughter to our halls, and her gentle presence soothes both kids and staff alike. Buddy is a warm, snuggly reminder that no matter where you start, you are worthy of love, of belonging, of home.
And now, Buddy’s journey is coming to life in the pages of a children’s book—a story of hope, friendship, and finding where you belong. We can’t wait to share it with you.
